Save Tens of Thousands with a Static Caravan or Lodge as Annexe Accommodation

Save Tens of Thousands with a Static Caravan or Lodge as Annexe Accommodation

Across the UK, families are facing growing pressure from the rising cost of housing. With rental prices at record highs, mortgage rates increasing, and upfront costs spiralling, the dream of affordable, secure accommodation is slipping further out of reach for many.

But there is a smarter, more cost-effective solution: using a static caravan or lodge as a garden annexe.

At UK Caravan Centre, we specialise in helping families create affordable, flexible, and comfortable living spaces—without the financial strain of the traditional property market.

The True Cost of Traditional Housing

Whether you’re renting or buying, the costs of traditional housing are higher than ever:

  • Rent: The average monthly rent in the UK is now over £1,200—adding up to more than £14,000 per year, with nothing to show for it
  • Mortgages: With current interest rates at 4–5%, monthly repayments are often hundreds more than just a few years ago
  • Deposits: Most buyers need to save between £20,000–£40,000 just to get started
  • Additional fees: Legal fees, stamp duty, and surveys can add another £10,000–£20,000 on top

Altogether, it’s not uncommon for families to spend £50,000 or more just to get into a home—not to mention the ongoing monthly costs.

The Affordable Alternative: Static Caravans and Lodges

Instead of throwing money at landlords or locking into high-interest loans, many families are now choosing static caravans and lodges as a long-term, budget-friendly solution.

At UK Caravan Centre, we offer fully equipped static caravans and residential lodges starting from just £15,000, with high-spec models available for up to £60,000—a fraction of the cost of traditional homes.

Static Caravans Are More Than Just Holiday Homes

Modern static caravans are designed to be comfortable, fully functional living spaces. With central heating, double glazing, modern kitchens, and accessible layouts, they are ideal for:

  • Independent family members
  • Downsizing or retirement living
  • Emergency or transitional housing
  • Long-term garden annexe accommodation

Benefits of Using a Static Caravan or Lodge as an Annexe

Save Tens of Thousands

The initial investment is far lower than buying a traditional home, and with no monthly rent or mortgage payments, the long-term savings are substantial.

Fast, Hassle-Free Setup

There’s no need for lengthy mortgage applications or complicated legal processes. In many cases, your caravan or lodge can be delivered and installed within weeks.

Flexible Living Options

Whether you need temporary accommodation for a family member or a permanent solution for multigenerational living, static caravans provide flexibility and adaptability.

Comfortable, Modern Interiors

Today’s caravans come with everything needed for full-time living, including insulation, heating, modern bathrooms, fitted kitchens, and even accessibility features.

Planning Permission and Installation

In many cases, a static caravan used as a garden annexe does not require full planning permission, especially when occupied by a family member. Our team at UK Caravan Centre can guide you through the planning rules and installation process, ensuring everything is compliant and stress-free.

Take Back Control of Your Housing Costs

You don’t have to be stuck in a cycle of high rent or unaffordable mortgages. A static caravan or lodge offers a realistic alternative, helping families:

  • Reduce or eliminate housing costs
  • Stay close to loved ones
  • Create independent living space in the garden
  • Avoid the burden of major renovations or relocations

Why Choose UK Caravan Centre?

We are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of static caravans and residential lodges for private use, garden annexes, and long-term accommodation.

We offer:

2026 Trade Show Highlights – Recap & Product Overview

2026 Trade Show Highlights – Recap & Product Overview

The 2026 trade show season saw a change from the usual format. Instead of one central event, manufacturers held separate showcases—ABI, Swift, and Willerby presented their ranges individually, while a smaller group of brands organised a joint event at Cottingham Golf Club.

While this fresh approach had its benefits, many of us in the industry, including ourselves, missed the convenience and atmosphere of a traditional, unified show. It also made it harder to see the full range of new models.

Despite this, there were plenty of exciting developments. Below is a summary of the key brand updates and product highlights for the 2026 season.

WILLERBY

Willerby has taken a steady approach this year, sticking with familiar interiors and colour schemes across much of their range. Rather than big changes, the focus

2026 New Willerby Vogue Static Caravan Holiday Home Kitchen

has been on refining details and improving quality.

The highlight is the fully refreshed Vogue. Inside, it offers a truly luxurious and elegant finish. The exterior has been simplified, but this has allowed Willerby to invest more in the interior specification — and it shows.

Prices have remained stable this September following modest increases earlier in the year.

Key updates:

Manor model retired and replaced by the Salisbury.

Vogue received a full facelift with a revised layout and interior redesign.

SWIFT

Swift continues to bring tourer-level craftsmanship to the static home market, with great attention to finish, layout, and materials.

Our Favourite

Margaux — a sleek mid-range home with a modern apartment feel. It’s perfect for customers seeking clean lines, open-plan living, and subtle luxury. The build quality is immediately obvious.

Having recently partnered with Swift, we can confirm their family-run approach is genuine — they are supportive, collaborative, and committed to long-term relationships.

Key updates

Loire – refreshed with a new interior scheme.

Burgundy – new model replacing the Arden.

Provence / Provence Outlook – new interior schemes; Outlook introduces a new layout.

Vendee Lodge – facelifted for 2026.

Morlaix Lodge – added to the 2025/26 lineup.

Edmonton Lodge – now features a townhouse-inspired interior, replacing the coastal look.

DELTA CARAVANS

Delta has made significant progress this year, delivering some of the most exciting homes on the market. This brand refresh positions them as a serious player in both value and innovation.

Our Favourite

Saffron Deluxe (36×12 2-bed) — An outstanding entry-level home that doesn’t feel cheap. With UPVC cladding, graphite windows, and freestanding furniture, it offers features often found in higher-priced models. Ideal for buyers seeking value without compromise on quality.

Delta Belgravia Lodge 42x14'6 2 Bedroom Luxury Lodge. Modern style bungalow perfect for high end rentals

Belgravia Lodge (42×14.6 Mono Pitch) — Delta’s move into the premium market. Developed with a London-based interior designer, the Belgravia presents a fresh, contemporary look both inside and out. It marks a shift away from traditional designs towards something modern and confident, aimed at the second-home market and already gaining attention.

Pricing remains competitive, with increases below average market levels.

Key updates:

Santana – refreshed with a new grey palette.

Saffron Deluxe – updated interiors.

Superior Deluxe – kitchen doors now blue instead of green.

Countryside Deluxe – new herringbone wood-effect vinyl flooring.

New Belgravia 42×14.6

New Belgravia Lodge (Mono Pitch) 42×14.6 — Delta’s boldest design yet.

Delta is definitely one to watch, showing real innovation alongside solid improvements.

CARNABY CARAVANS

Carnaby continues to provide practical, well-designed homes that work well on holiday parks.

Our Favourite

Melrose CL (Centre Lounge), which we believe has the best centre lounge layout currently on the market. It’s functional, modern, and great for families or shared occupancy.

Prices have increased around 6% across the range, but Carnaby’s build quality and reliability offer strong long-term value.

Key updates:

Melrose – now available in 32×12 (2-bed) and 36×12 (3-bed).

Melrose CL – replaces the Glaisdale CL while keeping the Melrose look.

Carrington – new model available in 36×12 (2-bed), 40×12 (2-bed), and 40×12 (3-bed).

Langham – facelifted for 2026.

Static Caravan or Lodge – Which Is Right for a Wheelchair Accessible Home?

Static Caravan or Lodge – Which Is Right for a Wheelchair Accessible Home?
uk caravan centre family accessible disabled

When planning a wheelchair accessible annexe or disabled-friendly holiday home, one of the first decisions is whether to choose a static caravan or a lodge. At UK Caravan Centre, we offer both—each with its own unique benefits depending on your needs, space, and budget.

What Is a Static Caravan?

A static caravan is a prefabricated home, usually 10–12 feet wide, built to be transported and placed in a permanent or semi-permanent location. It’s ideal for use as a garden annexe, temporary accommodation, or accessible holiday retreat, click HERE to see our range .

Key benefits of static caravans:

  • More affordable than lodges
  • Easier and quicker to install
  • Available in compact sizes for tighter garden spaces
  • Can be customised with wheelchair-accessible layouts
  • Usually fall under ‘caravan’ planning rules (often simpler for garden use)

Static caravans are a popular choice for people who want a cost-effective, comfortable living space with full accessibility features such as ramped access, wider doors, and wet rooms.

What Is a Lodge?

A lodge is a more premium version of a static home, typically larger (often 14–20 feet wide), and built to residential standards (BS 3632). Lodges look and feel more like a bungalow, offering extra space and a more home-like environment.

Key benefits of lodges:

  • Higher insulation and energy efficiency
  • More spacious interiors – ideal for wheelchair turning and carer space
  • Luxury finish with residential-quality kitchens and bathrooms
  • More suitable for long-term or full-time living
  • Perfect for future-proofing or aging in place

If you’re looking for a permanent garden annexe or a long-term accessible living solution, a lodge might be the better investment—especially when you want greater comfort, space, and longevity.

Which Option Is Better for Accessibility?

Both static caravans and lodges can be fully adapted for wheelchair access, but lodges generally offer:

  • More space for turning circles and carers
  • Greater flexibility for custom layouts
  • Higher spec finish for comfort and long-term use

However, budget and garden space are key deciding factors. For many families, a customised static caravan provides the ideal balance of functionality and affordability.

Need Help Choosing?

At UK Caravan Centre, we offer both wheelchair accessible static caravans and lodges across the UK. Whether you’re looking for a compact garden annexe or a luxury accessible lodge, we’ll guide you through:

  • Choosing the right size and layout
  • Understanding planning permission rules
  • Adding bespoke accessibility features
  • Arranging delivery and installation

Do Your Research

As with any big purchase, it’s useful to do your research first. This will make the buying process more enjoyable, as you’ll understand everything when it comes to the exciting bit – choosing your home!  Here are some of our suggestions of things you need to consider.

Terminology – from galvanised chassis to plots and pitches, sometimes it can seem like we are talking another language.  Click here for a glossary on all the key terms you might hear along the way.  Plans – is the home you are purchasing a family retreat that you can enjoy for years to come or a new business venture? If you are looking to rent out our property it is well worth sizing up the competition.  What are the holiday rental near you like? How much do they cost?  These are all important factors to consider.  Budget – It’s important to understand not only how much you are willing to pay for the home but also how much you wish to pay annually on site fees.  Speak to us at The UK Caravan Centre about the holiday parks in the area you are interested in locating your home.  You’ll either be purchasing your static caravan directly from the park, or some will allow you to purchase from a dealer, like us, The UK Caravan Centre in which case we can directly liase with your holiday park but may require a ‘bring on fee’
